A historic pool rooted in Strasbourg’s landscape

In Strasbourg, the Kibitzenau swimming pool has been a benchmark since it opened in 1965. The first large aquatic facility built after the iconic municipal baths, it has long been a landmark for residents of Neudorf and the surrounding area. Whole generations have learnt to swim here, thanks to its functional architecture and 50-metre Olympic pool.

But it was in 2014, after two years of intensive work, that the facility truly changed its face. Its reopening marked the start of a new era for a venue that now combines sport, wellbeing and family activities in modernised surroundings.

Spaces designed for play, relaxation and learning

A leisure hall for the whole family

The extension added a brand-new hall devoted to relaxation and learning to swim. A 250 m² leisure pool welcomes bathers in a warm atmosphere, with bubble benches, water curtains, massage jets and whirlpool areas. It also includes a 50 m² indoor paddling pool with a small slide and water games for the youngest children.

In summer, children can also enjoy a safe and fun outdoor water play area, designed for family summer fun.

Top-level sports facilities

A versatile Olympic pool

The sports area retains its 50-metre pool, which can now be divided by a central movable wall. This system creates two 25-metre pools, making the most of the space for training, leisure swimming or competitions.

The tiled surfaces have given way to stainless steel, a hygienic, durable material popular with swimmers. The pool is officially approved to host competitions up to national level.

A major innovation: safety enhanced by visual intelligence

The Kibitzenau pool is a pioneer in water surveillance. A sophisticated system of overhead cameras can detect a swimmer in distress underwater within seconds. This technology, unique in the Eurométropole, automatically alerts the lifeguards, adding a level of safety rarely matched in public facilities.

Particular attention to hygiene and water quality

Less irritation, more comfort

To ensure a healthier experience, advanced disinfection technologies have been installed. The water in the leisure pool and paddling pool is treated with ozone, a natural oxidant that effectively eliminates bacteria without producing chloramines, which cause unpleasant smells.

The Olympic pool, meanwhile, is fitted with a dechloraminator, which reduces irritating chemical residues and makes swimming more comfortable.

A new approach to circulation and comfort

A shoe-removal area has been set up at the entrance to the changing rooms to keep the floors clean. The changing rooms are now mixed, so families can stay together all the way to the pools. Adapted cubicles with baby-changing tables, as well as four individual shower cubicles, make things easier for parents with children.

Its friendly atmosphere and wide range of services make it an essential address in Strasbourg’s urban landscape.
