A captivating exhibition on the painful past of Veyrac
The exhibition “Alsace, Limousin, from past to present” has recently opened its doors in the Jean-Ferrat room, at the mas Martin of Veyrac. This exhibition invites us to relive the dark period from September 1, 1939, to November 3, 1940, during which Veyrac and the neighboring communes of Verneuil-sur-Vienne and Roeschwoog were affected by the evacuation of more than 250 families.
During the opening, more than 200 people gathered, including the mayors of Veyrac, Verneuil-sur-Vienne, Oradour-sur-Glane, as well as Alsatian officials and former elected officials. It is an opportunity for visitors to witness the quality and sincerity of the numerous testimonies, period photos, and correspondences presented during this exhibition.
An immersive journey into the history of Veyrac
This exhibition, initially organized 24 years ago by our Alsatian friends, plunges us into an immersive experience thanks to the precision of their documented research. Visitors will also discover photos of the martyred village of Oradour-sur-Glane, lent by the professional photographer from Veyrac, Hélène Delabre. A film featuring testimonies from the inhabitants of Roeschwoog about the evacuation period will also be made available by the Limoges Museum of the Resistance.
Memory, culture, and friendliness are the key words of this exhibition, as indicated by Nancette Maziere, honorary mayor of Veyrac. It is important to remember the history and the tragic events that the Alsatians experienced during the war, particularly as “Malgré-nous”, those Alsatians forced to join the German army.

The evening concluded with friendly exchanges and a glass of friendship, accompanied by treats prepared by the association of former elected officials of Veyrac.
